Posted on

Fountain Street General Practice would like to remind patients that adults over 65 years of age are eligible for a free pneumococcal vaccine if they have not had the vaccine previously.

Pneumonia is an infection of the lungs that can be a mild illness to life threatening, especially in babies, young children and the elderly. The most common signs and symptoms include:

  • cough
  • fevers, sweating and shivering
  • difficulty breathing
  • feeling generally tired and unwell
  • loss of appetite

Pneumonia also commonly presents when a person is recovering from a cold or flu and suddenly experiences a deterioration of their condition. Being vaccinated can help protect patients from developing the illness.

The pneumococcal vaccine can be administered by the practice nurse, please contact reception on 8303 2900 to book an appointment.
